The MSc in Medical Visualisation and Human Anatomy is a 12-month postgraduate programme offered by the School of Simulation and Visualisation (SimVis) at The Glasgow School of Art in collaboration with the Anatomy Facility in the School of Life Sciences, University of Glasgow.
This programme provides an ideal opportunity for enhancement of research into human anatomy, diagnostics, medical communication & education, simulation, and visualisation.
With the support of two top-ranked institutions, you will have the opportunity to undertake cadaveric dissection and examine prosections, and merge this unique knowledge within your creative practice in medical illustration and visualisation, enhanced with 3D digital reconstruction, interactive & immersive technologies.
To do so, you will have access to state of the art facilities such as a dedicated VR-ready PC for your studio work at the School of Simulation and Visualisation, along with a wide range of technologies including Virtual and Augmented Reality, and cutting edge clinical anatomy training installations within the historical facilities of anatomy at The University of Glasgow.
You will split your time equally between The Glasgow School of Art and The University of Glasgow, being in direct contact with experienced creative technologists, researchers and anatomists.
Your training will focus on two key areas – digital anatomical reconstruction and interactive technologies applied to medical visualisation, and practical human anatomy.
You will express your creativity in a practical project under the supervision of experienced tutors within and outside The Glasgow School of Art and The University of Glasgow.
“The MedVis master’s is completely unique, and that’s why I chose to come to Glasgow- you can’t get this experience anywhere else. I got the opportunity to learn digital and design skills right alongside gaining vital anatomy knowledge and experience. It was so much more than the course content – I learned how to develop a creative practice and how to critically self-reflect about what I made. “
Mary Margaret McKillop, MSc Graduate, 2021
“The programme gave me an opportunity to acquire a unique combination of the diverse skills, such as interactive application development, 3D modelling, animation, and good knowledge of human anatomy. The course is designed in a way that even people without much experience in any of these fields can get a good solid foundation.”
