The Academic Year

Banner image shows a computer graphics rendition of a human head. Half of the head is represented as coloured triangles, which are breaking apart and seeming to blow away. A logo for the QS Top 10 World University Rankings is also shown.

The academic year is split across three semesters, running from September through to August – two taught semesters and a summer semester dedicated to independent research projects.

In semester 1 students work on a range of individual and group projects for Sound for the Moving Image 1, and learn about critical and academic approaches to sound in Research in Sound and Film. In Semester 2, Sound for Moving Image 2 involves more related projects for individual and/or group work, and students choose two elective classes. At least one elective must be selected from the sound/audio related electives offered by SimVis – at time of writing these include: Electronic Music & Sound Design, Interactive Audio, Audio for Games, Music for Picture and Sound Culture. For the second elective, students may choose again from this list, or may choose from the wide selection of electives across the GSA postgraduate portfolio of Cross-School Electives.
